Countdown to Cambodia

Rating: 2 votes, 4.00 average.
Hi there friends
For those of you who do not know me, I am Bev Hopper Nurse Educator for Orthopaedics at WDHB. I have a scholarship from the NZ Orthopaedic Nurses Assos to travel to Cambodia with a team from the Impact Trust. I will be teaching Orthopaedic nursing skills to nurses at Sihanouk Hospital Centre of Hope for 2 weeks and then travelling to Siem Reap to teach in the villages and orphanages - basic health skills.
I have never done anything like this before so I am going with a very open mind for what it will be like. I have a USB crammed full of information and teachables - which may or maynot be very handy!!
Please join with me on my adventures and experiences as I make this amazing journey outside of what I know and hold dear in the NZ health service.
I leave at 0050 on the 9th Oct. I hope to be able to blog on from the hotel most nights.
The count down is on....
12 more sleeps!!!!!!!

Well its only a matter of hours now before we go to the airport... been doing last minute shopping. Coloured pencils and colouring books for children, hair clips and ties for their hair, stickers to make the orphanage room look pretty!!
I have been blown away at the generosity of people... We had 15kg of extra bagage allowance for medical supplies and boy have we used every mg!!! Thank you to all of those who havew given so generously.
I have packed and unpacked and re packed!! Everything now in miniature!! even a tiny brush instead of my usual paddle one!! Hard to believe that the next time I blog will be from Cambodia.
    Thanxz for reading

Well the first day in Cambodia is a bit of a blurrrr.. very jet lagged and so very hot and humid. Spent a few hours finding a hotel thatt was able to accomodate us all!! Thought it was sorted but the hotel was not so great. Went to hotel #2 and also not so good... third try and awesome!! Blue Line Hotel... gorgeous... pool, mosquito nets and so very lovely. Doesnt quite seem right to be living so well when I here to work!! Sampled some lovely Khmer food which I thought was dinner.... it was only 1pm!! Off to the provinces this morning with a group of nurses who have been here a while working... no idea what to expect! I will blog tonight to let you know. Temps are about 26deg which sounds OK but just so humid. Poss off to church with our guide Malis and her husband tonight. I guess the jet lag will wear off and I will feel normal soon... well as normal as I ever get!! haha. Taking heaps of photos so woll have to work out how to download on the go! The people here are so incredibly friendly, big smiles... 3-5 on a moto and easy smiles and waves! Quite an experience out on the roads... you would swear that there are no rules... we did a U turn on the main road and went against the traffic cos we saw something that we wanted to look at! wahoo!! No police around yesterday cos it was a public hol...lol. Off now. Blog later.

Thats sounds wonderful. Here still cold, had the heater on last night, enjoy the humidity.
Spend 3 hours on my assignment and had a lap top from a friend, gave the plug to plug in the power to my lady who does the proofreading, as she hasn't got a PC. And!!!!!! ....she didn't switch on the power. After 3 hours the PC went blank,ohhhhhhhhhhh.....was I gutted........
Ofcourse I didn't check if the power was on.Lucky she didnt charge me, for the 3 hours. We couldn't get the PC going again, so my friend rang his friend up in Whangarei and she said you have to take out the battery, didn,t know that. Finally we got it working again, clever me, had saved the assignment onto the desk top, and although I had written on the copy from the USB stick all the changes were saved in the copy on the desk top. Pays to have a expensive PC ~ 3000 NZ.Dol. Thats me for tonight, hope you have a great time.

With laptops, if you are using them on the power more than 80% of the time it pays to take the battery out and use the AC power otherwise the battery charges and discharges over time so that when you do come to use it off AC it will give little time.

Always save your work as the first thing that you do so that if anything happens it's always where you saved it with the name you gave it. Changing autosave to 1minute is a good idea too.

Nothing worse than writing heaps and then losing it happened to me many many times.
